Body mass index values for newborns according to gestational age.
OBJECTIVE The combination of twho anthropometric parameters has been more appropriate to assess body composition and proportions in children, with special attention to the Body Mass Index (BMI), as it relates weight and length. However the BMI values for the neonatal period have not been determined yet. This study shows the BMI for newborns at different gestational ages represented in a normal ...
متن کاملNormoblasts in large for gestational age infants.
Thirty one term large for gestational age (LGA) infants of non-diabetic mothers were compared with 30 appropriate for gestational age controls. Median absolute nucleated red blood cell counts, lymphocyte counts, and packed cell volumes were significantly higher in the LGA infants than the controls. It is possible that LGA babies of non-diabetic mothers are exposed to relative intrauterine hypoxia.
متن کاملRelationship of Gestational Weight Gain with Cesarean Delivery Risk, Perinatal Birth Weight, and Gestational Age in Overweight and Obese Women
Background: Gestational weight gain (GWG) is an important issue for all pregnant women due to its effect on pregnancy outcomes. Regarding this, the aim of the present study was to assess the relationship of GWG with cesarean section, birth weight, and gestational age at birth in the women with a pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) of ≥ 25 kg/m2. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducte...
متن کاملTHE VALUE OF PONDERAL INDEX AS A PROGNOSTIC FACTOR IN PREDICTING COMPLICATIONS IN TERM NEONATES
Rohrer's ponderal index in newborns (birth weight * 100/height3) has been used as an indicator of fetal growth status, especially to assess asymmetrical intrauterine growth retardation. Low ponderal index or disproportionate intrauterine growth retardation has higher neonatal morbidity and there are some specific guidelines in intrauterine growth retarded infants to control some of their pr...
متن کاملIs hypotension a major risk factor for neurological morbidity at term age in very preterm infants?
OBJECTIVE To investigate the influence of perinatal risk factors, especially hypotension, on neuromotor status at term in surviving preterm infants born before 32 weeks of gestation. METHODS This study is part of the Leiden Follow-Up Project on Prematurity: a prospective, regional study of 266 live born infants with a gestational age (GA) < 32 weeks born in 1996-1997. Twenty-eight infants die...
